Textile Conservation Day

Learn more about our textiles conservation project at the Ancient High House. We’ll have our team of volunteers on hand demonstrating the preventive conservation techniques we use to look after our textile collection.

Drop-in Tour – Embroidery and the Stafford Borough Broderers

Come and join us at the Ancient High House on Saturday 2nd December from 11am to 11.45am for this free drop-in tour, exploring the history of embroidery, the story of the Stafford Borough Broderers and for a behind-the-scenes look at the conservation techniques used to preserve their amazing work!

Ghost Tour at the Ancient High House

In the past the Ancient High House has been a residential home, a civil war prison, a school and home to an old shop. So it’s not surprising that a building with such a traumatic history should have tormented souls trapped within its walls…

Join butler Alfred Jenkinson as he takes you on a tour round the High House by dark. Hear the spooky tales that lie behind each room.

Thursday 30th November 2023. Pre booking is required. Please book via the website. Please arrive at 7.15pm.

The tour is 90 minutes long and includes refreshments of tea and coffee.

(Over 18’s only).

Stafford Heritage Trail

Take a gentle stroll around Stafford with our knowledgeable guide to see the town in a new light. Learn about the secrets of the buildings and hear about colourful characters from the past.

The tour will last for approximately 1 1/2 hours. Meet outside the Ancient High House at 10.30am.

Haunted High House

This Halloween something spooky is haunting the Ancient High House and we need your help to investigate! Whether you’re after family friendly spooks or something sinister, we have Halloween Hauntings for all ages!

What ghosts have been spotted by the houses’ troubled family? Be part of a spooky tea party with Miss Shivers. Join the evil Witch of the High House as they brew new concoctions. What spooky sightings have been seen happening in our Castle Room? And join our resident doctor for ghoulish experiments.
All this plus spooky stories, sweets, and treasure hunts. This is sure to be one fang-tastic ghost adventure!

Wildlife at the Castle

With so many animals to see and interact with, plus local produce and suppliers, this is every nature lovers dream. Free childrens workshops around the site, cakes and jams, coin minting in the keep, live music from local artists and a trail around our excellent woodland. All this and lots more…

 

Teddy Bear’s Picnic

Spend an afternoon in our cottage garden, perfect for families to bring a picnic and enjoy all we have to offer. Garden games, our Teddy bear hunt, storytelling, magician, seed planting workshop and more.
entrance is free and car parking is £3 for the whole day.

Join us for a relaxed day. refreshments available but do feel free to bring your picnic and blankets to sit on in case the benches are full. Open from 11 till 4pm.

Father Christmas at the High House + Stafford Town Light Switch On

It’s the Stafford Town Light Switch On day and Santa will be waiting to greet you in the Ancient High House! Come and write a letter to Santa in our Elf writing room before going through to see him in his grotto – expect a reply in the weeks following! There will also be a sweet shop and Christmas colouring throughout our beautifully decorated festive rooms.

Pre-booking is required. Please ring the Ancient High House on 01785 619131 or come in to visit us in order to book your slot.

Slots begin at 10.30am and run until 3.20pm. Please arrive 30 minutes before your slot so that you can write your letter!
